A 42-year-old Clarks Hill man has died from injuries he suffered in a multi-vehicle crash involving two motorcycles and a passenger vehicle Saturday afternoon in La Porte County.
According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 3:59 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, to the intersection of U.S. Highway 421 and School Road in Wanatah for a reported personal injury crash involving two Harley-Davidson motorcycles and a passenger vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they found both motorcycles in the roadway as bystanders rendered aid to the injured riders and passengers.
The preliminary investigation determined that a 2005 Mazda traveling northbound and driven by Daniel Quiroz, 19, of Portage, struck a 2021 Harley-Davidson operated by Ryan Harrison, 42, of Clarks Hill, from behind. The impact ejected both Harrison and his passenger, Amber Harrison, 41.
Investigators said the Mazda continued north after the initial collision and struck a 2006 Harley-Davidson that was traveling directly in front of Harrison’s motorcycle. That motorcycle was being operated by Levi Bridges, 42, of Lafayette, who was also ejected along with his passenger, Amber Bridges, 41.
Ryan and Amber Harrison were airlifted from the scene to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, while Levi and Amber Bridges were transported by ambulance to Franciscan Health Michigan City for treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office said Ryan Harrison died Sunday, July 12, from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
Authorities said toxicology results are pending, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Ryan Elcock, Deputies Austin Howell, Sawyer Laffoon, Adam Needles, Detective Derrick Deck, La Porte County EMS, the Cass-Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, the Westville Police Department, and the St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Detective Derrick Deck at ddeck@lcso.in.gov or 219-326-7700 ext. 2413.
