A motorcyclist was killed early Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road in Porter County, according to Indiana State Police.

Indiana State Police Toll Road troopers were dispatched to the area near mile marker 25 at approximately 4:28 a.m. CST after receiving multiple reports of a motorcycle crash.

According to a preliminary investigation by Trooper Alvin Best, a gray 2024 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway to the right and struck the face of a guardrail.

Police said the male rider was ejected from the motorcycle and was found approximately 144 feet from the initial point of impact. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators believe the motorcycle remained upright after the collision and continued for roughly 1,000 feet before coming to rest on the inside shoulder of the eastbound lanes.

Indiana State Police said speed and alcohol are both believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

The eastbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road were closed while troopers investigated the scene and reopened at approximately 6:57 a.m. CST.

The identity of the motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of family by the Porter County Coroner’s Office.

Assisting at the scene were troopers from the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, Portage Fire and EMS, the Porter County Coroner’s Office, and Double T Towing.
