Yessica Paola Vivas Jacome, 23, of Hammond, is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after police alleged she armed herself with a kitchen knife and attacked a woman inside a residence in the 1500 block of 174th Street.
According to court documents, Hammond Police were dispatched to the location at approximately 11:48 a.m. on June 1 after a reported stabbing. Officers located two injured individuals in an alley near the residence and learned the incident had occurred inside a rear residence on the property.

Investigators said officers encountered a language barrier with those involved and utilized a Spanish-speaking officer to translate. The male victim was identified through a Mexico identification card, while the female victim was identified through her own statements to police.
Court documents state the female victim had been invited to the residence earlier that day and was watching television with a male friend while the two were lying in bed together. Investigators allege Vivas Jacome pushed open the bedroom door and discovered the pair together.
Police said Vivas Jacome later returned to the room armed with a kitchen knife and grabbed the woman by the hair. The male resident attempted to intervene and suffered a laceration to his left hand while trying to take the knife away from her. The woman sustained a shallow laceration to her chin and complained of pain to her head from having her hair pulled.
According to court documents, the woman fled the residence and ran into the alley seeking help from a neighbor, who contacted police.
Investigators later learned Vivas Jacome and the male resident had previously dated and had been living together for approximately two months. The man told police he had been attempting to end the relationship.
The male resident told investigators he initially got Vivas Jacome outside the residence and attempted to calm her down after she discovered the pair together. He alleged she slapped him and that he noticed she was concealing a kitchen knife behind her back before she re-entered the home. He followed her inside, where a struggle allegedly occurred in the bedroom.
Court documents state Vivas Jacome told police she had just returned home from work when she discovered the pair kissing in the bedroom. She admitted retrieving a knife from the kitchen and returning to the room. She denied cutting the woman with the knife but admitted the man’s hand was cut when he attempted to take the knife away from her.
Police also observed a wound on Vivas Jacome’s left arm. She claimed the injury occurred during the confrontation. Investigators said she told officers she had been in a relationship with the male resident since November 2025.
The male resident told investigators he did not wish to pursue charges.
