The Chicago Bears have officially voted to move forward with a stadium development project in Hammond, Indiana, marking what could become one of the most significant economic development announcements in Northwest Indiana history.

In a statement released by Bears Chairman George H. McCaskey and President & CEO Kevin Warren, the organization said:

“We believe a world-class stadium project in Hammond will transform the region, connecting Northwest Indiana to the South Side of Chicago and across Chicagoland. It will bring new opportunities to residents and businesses for generations to come.”

Indiana Governor Mike Braun praised the decision, calling it a game-changing opportunity for the state.

“We look forward to building a partnership as strong as the ’85 Bears defense, creating opportunities and economic growth that will benefit our state and the Bears organization for decades to come,” Braun said. “An NFL franchise in Northwest Indiana will be an economic boost to the entire region unlike anything we’ve seen before.”

Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. celebrated the announcement, saying:

“The Chicago Bears chose Hammond, Indiana because they see what I have said for years: Hammond is a successful city of opportunity and possibility, an excellent choice for such a significant investment.”

McDermott also thanked Governor Braun, Speaker Todd Huston, Senator Ryan Mishler, and local legislators for helping secure the project.

If completed, the development is expected to bring thousands of jobs, significant private investment, and national attention to Northwest Indiana.
