Calumet City Fire Displaces Ten Thursday

Calumet City Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday evening shortly after 6:30PM on the 300 block of Memorial Dr.

On arrival crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the 2nd & 3rd floors of a three story building. The building has three apartments in which two were occupied on the second and third floors. All residents were out of the building on arrival and none reported injuries. A resident said the fire started in the bedroom while the family was in the kitchen. Ten total residents in the building were displaced.

One firefighter suffered a knee injury and he was treated and released, according to Calumet City Fire Chief Glenn Bachert. Lansing Fire Department responded as well for auto mutual aid. The fire remains under investigation at this time.
