Car Crash Knocks Out Power In Cedar Lake

Cedar Lake Police are investigating a single vehicle crash in the 12800 blk of Fairbanks St. around 4 PM Tuesday knocking power out to area homes.

The driver, a 44-year-old male from Crown Point had suffered a medical issue and drove off the roadway northbound on Fairbanks, striking a utility pole.

The driver had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Cedar Lake Fire Department and was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point with minor injuries.

The crash was captured on a nearby home security system which helped the police determine what had occurred since the driver was not able to recall it due to his medical issue, police said.

The roadway in the 12800 blk of Fairbanks remains closed for several hours while NISCO utility crews fix the pole and utilities in the area.
