Early Christmas Morning Fatal Fire In Portage
Portage Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire around 1:30 AM Friday morning on the 5400 block of Central, according to Portage Fire Chief Randy Wilkening.
When crews arrived it was reported there was still an individual in the residence with a working fire on the first floor, Wilkening stated. Crews knocked down the fire and found one victim deceased. Once the fire was extinguished The Porter County Coroner was called to the scene along with the State Fire Marshal.
The cause of the fire still under investigation by The Portage Fire Department and The State Fire Marshal. The Porter County Coroner has identified the victim as 55-year-old Douglas Pennington, of Portage,
Portage Fire was assisted by South Haven, Burns Harbor, and Liberty Fire Departments.
