EC Police Witness Female Discharge Weapon Sunday Morning

On October 18, 2020 at approximately 3:00 a.m. Sgt T. Leimbach of the East Chicago Police was patrolling the area of Mario’s Lounge in a marked squad car, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera. The bar was closing, so Sgt Leimbach patrolled the area to assure the peace. While in the area Sgt Leimbach observed a white Chrysler 300 leaving the parking lot across the street from Mario’s Lounge located at 4725 Indianapolis Blvd.
Sgt Leimbach observed the front seat passenger extend a firearm out the passenger window and fire a single shot. The vehicle then fled southbound on 4700 Indianapolis Blvd. Sgt Leimbach proceeded after the vehicle and initiated a felony stop on the vehicle on the 800 block of 148th Street. Both the driver and passenger were removed from the vehicle and detained on scene.

The driver was identified as 19 year old Angel Legrand of Gary, Indiana. She was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a driver’s license.

The passenger was identified as 39 year old Sabrina Lee Petrassi of Merrillville, Indiana. She was arrested and charged with public intoxication and issued a citation for discharging a firearm in city limits.
A 9mm semi automatic handgun, 1 spent casing, 5 live rounds and the magazine to the weapon were recovered from the vehicle.

East Chicago Police will be requesting the Indiana State Police Firearm Division to revoke Sabrina Petrassi’s lifetime license to carry a firearm. Thankfully nobody was injured due to their reckless behavior, Rivera said.

All parties are innocent until proven guilty.
