Hammond Police Tactical Unit Responds Overnight

On Friday, January 3rd, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Hammond police responded to a home in the 1700 block of 170th place. Numerous area witnesses reported shots fired from the immediate area, Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police said Saturday.

Police were able to locate the home from where the shots came and no one immediately responded to officers at the scene. Due to the large number of casings from multiple firearms that were located, the Hammond Police tactical unit responded. Officers made contact with the 40-year-old resident who surrendered peacefully after a short time, Kellogg stated. No one was injured during the incident.

The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Hammond Police Department for the charge of criminal recklessness. Additional information will be released upon the accepting of charges by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
