Merrillville Police Pursuit Ends With Suspect Water Logged

Around 9pm Monday Merrillville Police Officers went to stop a SUV for a traffic infraction with the driver refusing to stop. The driver led police on a brief pursuit before losing control hitting a curb and putting his truck into a pond next to the Clarion Inn at 7850 Rhode Island St. The driver got out the truck and swam before fleeing on foot into a wooded area to hide from officers. About 9:50 police heard and saw a man moving around in some brush and apprehended the suspect. An ambulance was called to the scene as the suspect was complaining of chest pains after his swim and brief run. He was later transferred to Lake County Jail.

The suspect whose name is still pending will be charged with one count of Felony Resisting & one count of Misdemeanor Resisting according to Deputy Chief Kosta Nuses of The Merrillville Police Department.
