Pursuit Of Dodge Ends In East Chicago

At approximately 11 AM, Friday, May 13, 2022, a Lake County Sheriff’s Department police officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on a white Dodge Charger near 21st & Chase in Gary because the temporary plate was difficult to read, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.

The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, cutting off another vehicle and driving through alleys in an attempt to evade police.
Officers continued to pursue the fleeing vehicle into East Chicago, where it jumped a curb and eventually came to a stop. Both occupants attempted to flee on foot, Martinez stated. Police officers from East Chicago and Gary Police Departments assisted in taking the driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle into custody.

The driver is a 21-year-old male who had two active warrants: one for marijuana possession and one for driving while suspended. The passenger is a 16-year-old female. The two are siblings from Hammond, Indiana.

A loaded magazine was recovered from a backpack the female passenger was carrying when she fled on foot. A pistol believed to match the magazine was recovered from an area near 138th & Evergreen in East Chicago.

No injuries were reported. Criminal charges are pending, Martinez said.
