Semi VS Fire Engine In Chesterton

Around 1:20PM Wednesday near the intersection of Liberty / Westchester Township Line Road (1100 North) / State Road 49 a Semi crashed into a Chesterton Fire Engine responding to an emergency call, according to eyewitnesses. The witness stated after the collision water began shooting into the air from the fire engine that was split in half from the collision. Chesterton Police Investigation shows the Fire Engine going through the red light with full lights and sirens and a 2007 Peterbilt Semi had the green light and collided with the rear of the engine. Minor injuries for one of the three firefighters and the semi driver who were both treated on scene, police said.

Firefighters were seen walking around after the impact. There was lane restrictions in place in the area and traffic was impacted while the wreck was cleared till about 4:30pm.

The Chesterton Fire Department has advised the public there was no injuries to any of the firefighters. They thanked the public for all the outreach they received this evening.
