STATE POLICE ANNOUNCE CHARGES IN FATAL I-57 TRAFFIC CRASH

Illinois State Police (ISP) officials announce charges in the arrest of Tevin N. Washington (M/25) of Chicago Heights, Illinois, for his involvement in the February 28th, 2020, fatal traffic crash which occurred on I-57 northbound at 138th Street.

On February 28 , 2020, at approximately 2:05 a.m., ISP officers responded to the scene of a two unit fatal traffic crash. A thorough investigation by ISP Investigators revealed Unit 1 was traveling on I-57 northbound at 138th Street at a high rate of speed. Unit 1’s vehicle struck Unit 2 in the rear. Unit 2 driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle due to being struck by Unit 1 and rolled over a concrete barrier wall. Unit 2’s vehicle became fully engulfed and Unit 2 driver succumbed to injuries sustained in the traffic crash on scene. The driver of Unit 1 was transported to Oak Forest Police Department where he awaited a bond hearing.

On February 29, 2019, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges for Washington of Reckless Homicide & Aggravated DUI – Death.
