Update On Lansing Crash Started As Hit & Run

On May 11, at approximately 3:16 a.m., the Lansing Police Department responded to 180th and Burnham Ave., for a hit and run accident report, according to Lansing Police. A secondary call was received at approximately the same time for a vehicle on fire at 2455 Bernice Rd. The Lansing Fire Department and Lansing Police Department were dispatched to that location as well.

Upon arrival at the Burnham Avenue accident, Officers were advised by the driver of a 2010 GMC Acadia that he was driving south bound in the 17800 block of Burnham Avenue when an unknown vehicle struck the front drivers side of his vehicle and drove off. No further information about the accident was provided and the driver and vehicle were released from the scene pending further investigation. No evidence to support the reported accident was located by the investigating officer, police said.

Officers responding to the vehicle fire at 2455 Bernice Rd. located a heavily damaged 2014 Toyota sedan flipped over and engulfed in flames. The Lansing Fire Department extinguished the fire, and verified that the vehicle was un-occupied. An additional license plate was found in the area of the accident scene, which was determined to belong to the vehicle involved in the alleged accident in the 17800 block of Burnham Ave.

Shortly thereafter, the Lansing Police Department was notified by the Highland, Indiana Police Department that they were out with two subjects seeking medical assistance for a third person in their vehicle. They advised that their friend had allegedly been injured in a car accident that occurred at an unknown location in Lansing, Illinois. Due to the severity of his injuries the male subject was airlifted to a trauma center in Illinois. The male subject is now in stable condition.

Follow-up investigation to the original accident report on Burnham Avenue, resulted in Officer’s locating the GMC Acadia, broken down and unoccupied in Harvey, Illinois.
