Wild Chase From Chicago to Merrillville

Illinois State Police pursue three teenage suspects from Chicago to Merrillville that are suspected of carjacking a ride share driver Saturday night.

Chicago Police say the Silver Hyundai was stolen at gunpoint from a 44 year old man near 95th & The Dan Ryan. A Homeland Security Helicopter followed the vehicle around 10:18 PM. During the chase an ISP car struck the vehicle but there was no reported injuries. However another ISP car struck the wall of the expressway during the chase which quickly caught the troopers squad on fire. That trooper was transported for non life threatening injuries police said. The 2011 Hyundai Elantra then hit another State Police vehicle on the drivers door but that trooper was not injured.

The Hyundai got off on 30 and continued East where multiple Indiana agencies jumped into the pursuit before crashing in Merrillville in the center median. Police found a 15 year old girl driving, a 15 year old male in the passenger seat, and a 13 year old passenger in the rear.

All three were transported to be checked for injuries and released back to their parents. Future charges are pending for the driver, ISP stated.
