Eric Dwayne Wilson, 31, of Gary, is facing a felony charge following an investigation into a shooting involving two vehicles near Ridge Road and Broadway in Gary.
According to court documents, Gary Police investigated the July 29, 2026 shooting after a man reported Wilson shot at his vehicle. Police observed a bullet hole through the rear windshield and front windshield of the vehicle. The man also had an actively bleeding cut on the right side of his jaw, which he said he did not have prior to the shooting. A search of the man and his vehicle revealed no firearm.
Investigators used surveillance footage, Flock license plate reader data, recorded interviews and other investigative information during the investigation. Surveillance footage allegedly showed an object briefly protruding from the driver’s window of Wilson’s Impala, followed by a small cloud of smoke at the same time the rear windshield of the other vehicle shattered. Additional footage with audio captured a gunshot as both vehicles traveled north on Broadway at high speed.
On August 6, police stopped Wilson’s vehicle near 21st Avenue and Clark Road. Officers observed a tan handgun in the center console and a rifle on the passenger seat, according to court documents. Wilson was then arrested in connection with the July 29 shooting.
During a recorded interview on August 7, Wilson waived his rights and told investigators that while on Broadway near Ridge Road, the other driver appeared to be reaching for something. Wilson admitted he then shot one time with the Glock handgun he was arrested with, according to the affidavit. Wilson stated he did not call police.
Wilson was lodged in the Lake County Jail on August 7.
