LANSING — Lansing Police have lifted the shelter-in-place advisory that was issued Thursday afternoon following a fatal shooting at NPAA Nippon Paint Automotive Americas, located on 170th Street, across from the Lansing Police Department.
During a 4 p.m. update, Lansing Police Chief Al Phillips said investigators now believe the suspect has likely fled the immediate area following an extensive search involving numerous local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Police revealed that the victim, an adult male employee, was shot and killed inside the NPAA facility while he was at work. The shooting was reported around 12:48 p.m., prompting a massive law enforcement response and a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents and businesses.
The suspect remains at large and is described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black do-rag, black hoodie, and a white surgical mask. Authorities say he was last observed running southbound from the 2700 block of 170th Street shortly after the shooting.
Chief Phillips said that after a thorough search of the surrounding area, investigators no longer believe the suspect remains in the immediate vicinity, leading officials to lift the shelter-in-place advisory at approximately 4 p.m.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim or disclosed what may have led to the deadly shooting. Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the Lansing Police Department immediately.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
