Crown Point Police Pursue Farm Tractor Friday Night

A Crown Point Police Officer on patrol Friday night around 11:30 PM observed a farm tractor driving southbound on Broadway near Summit St with no lights on, according to Crown Point Police. The officer tried stopping the tractor but It continued southbound and the officers initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit continued for nearly 45 minutes as multiple agencies attempted to spike the tires numerous times. The tractor began losing fluids and slowed after spike strips worked. The pursuit ended near 157th and Colorado Street after the subject crashed into a pole and ended up in a residence pond.

Officers commanded the suspect to exit the tractor while it was in the water but refused. Eventually police obtained a ladder from Lake Dale Fire Department to reach the submerged tractor. The suspect used the ladder to climb to the grass embankment where a Hobart K9 was waiting. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Lake County Sheriff Officers also assisted in the pursuit.

He is currently being housed at The Lake County Jail. Charges are pending through the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. Check back for further updates.
