Griffith Gas Station Raided For Narcotics Sales

On Wednesday, May 13, 2020 the Indiana State Excise Police, with the assistance of the Griffith Police Department, executed a search warrant at AP Gas in Griffith. The execution of the search warrant was a result of a four-and-a-half-month investigation into the sale of illegal narcotics by employees of AP Gas, according to Lindsay Hyer of The Alcohol & Tobacco Commission.

The search warrant was issued by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office for the business, located at 305 Ridge Road, and two vehicles associated with employees. As a result of the search warrant, officers located and seized plant material suspected of being marijuana, a hand gun and over $6,000 in U.S. currency, Hyer told RNS.

The decision was made not to incarcerate the clerk who previously sold narcotics to officers due to the COVID-19 health emergency.  Officers instead elected, after consultation with a deputy prosecutor, to forward reports to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office to review for later charges.

As a result of the investigation, the business tobacco sales certificate was also issued a notice of violation for public nuisance.
