Hobart Pursuit Ends In Portage


On Thursday evening around 8:20 PM a Hobart Police Officer was positioned near The American Legion located on 200 South Linda Street when a white Dodge Challenger Hellcat did a burnout, according to Captain James Gonzales. 

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle which fled at a high rate of speed. Hobart officers pursued the vehicle into Portage. The Dodge traveling at high rate speed attempted to cross the railroad tracks on Hamstrom Rd where he lost control and bottomed out the Dodge causing it to spin out of control. The vehicle was blocked in by Hobart & Portage police cars where two males and a three year old girl were removed from the vehicle. 

The child was not injured in the incident and was given back to the mother who was unaware of the situation. The vehicle was not stolen and the driver had no warrants. The 23 year old Illinois driver faces numerous charges pending in Lake County from this incident.  The male passenger was released.
