Michigan City Police Investigating Homicide

On Wednesday November 25th at approximately 2:30 A.M.; the La Porte County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to a subject that was shot and not breathing at a residence in the 200 Block of Fir Street, according to Michigan City Police.

Michigan City Patrol Officers arrived and found 26-year-old Micah Garrett of Michigan City deceased within the residence.

The MCPD Investigative Division was immediately contacted and began an investigation. The crime scene was processed, and interviews were conducted with witnesses. Detectives have identified a person of interest and are continuing to follow up on leads at this time. An autopsy is scheduled for later this afternoon.

Agencies and divisions assisting with this investigation include: MCPD Patrol Division, MCPD Investigative Division, MCPD Division of Professional Standards, Trail Creek Police Department, Long Beach Police Department, La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, La Porte County EMS, La Porte County Coroner’s Office, and the Michigan City Fire Department.

It is believed that this incident was not a random act of violence. In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, information pertaining to the person of interest will not be released at this time, police said. MCPD sent their condolences to the family of Micah Garrett.
