Munster Police Chase Caught On Video Ends With Arrest In Griffith

Munster Police attempted to stop a dark colored Chevy Impala Tuesday afternoon around noon for traveling at low speeds and a stolen license plate, according to Lt. John Peirick of The Munster Police. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle with the hood flying on the passenger side of the Impala while it was being pursued near Columbia & Ridge traveling Eastbound. The pursuit was terminated after entering Highland by the Munster Police Supervisor, Peirick said,

The Griffith Police Department spotted the vehicle and was able to make a stop on it, Peirick told Region News.

UPDATE – Griffith Police were patrolling on the 500 block of E Ridge Road when an officer saw a vehicle that matched the description of Munster’s chase suspect coming up behind him in his rear view mirror, Commander Keith Martin of The Griffith Police told Region News. The officer let the vehicle pass him and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Ridge & Colfax. The suspect attempted to flee but the officer was able to block his vehicle, according to Martin. The officer was able to get the suspect out of the vehicle at the stop and place him in cuffs. The driver only identified at this time pending charges is a 27-year-old black male from Blue Island, IL. Officers learned his license was suspended and the vehicle never registered, Martin told Region News. The driver was arrested and continued to be disorderly in the back of the of police car kicking, stomping, spitting, and shaking the squad car. The suspect made threats to the officer as well as saying, “I wish for all white people to be dead from disease.” At that time Griffith Officers decided to take him directly to Lake County Jail.

The suspect has the following charges pending – Resisting Law Enforcement Level 6 Felony, Intimidation Level 6 Felony, and Theft (Possession of Stolen Property) Misdemeanor.
