Carjacked Truck Pursuit Ends In Dyer Thursday

Around 9:10 PM Thursday, a Schererville Police Pursuit started involving a carjacked 2013 Dodge Durango. The Durango was taken within the last 24 hours in Chicago, according to Deputy Chief Jeff Cook of the Schererville Police. The pursuit started in the parking lot of a business in the 1040 block of US Hwy 41, in Schererville, Cook said.

Poor road conditions of snow packed roadways with blowing snow causing slicker then normal conditions made this more challenging. The chase went to US 30 westbound where Dyer Police jumped in to assist until the Durango was involved in a crash at Calumet Ave & 30 with two other vehicles.

No injuries were reported from the crash, Cook stated. Five suspects ran from the truck after it was lodged in a snow bank at Chase Bank on the corner of the intersection. Munster Police assisted in the foot pursuit of suspects. One of the suspects was apprehended near Texas Roadhouse, according to radio traffic.

Five suspects total were taken into custody, Cook said. Radio traffic indicated most of the suspects were from the Chicago area. At least one stolen handgun was also recovered, Cook added. Four adults and one juvenile were listed in custody but ages were not immediately available.

Schererville Police will have further details in the morning as this investigation continues. Check back with RNS for more.
