Valpo PD To Have National Night Out October 6

The Valparaiso Police Department is again participating in National Night, which is scheduled for October 6, 2020. National Night out is a national event, bringing communities and police together under positive conditions, creating an exchange of ideas, and developing a partnership with citizens. This year’s event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will look slightly different as we follow all CDC and Porter County Health Department Guidelines. All events will be completed by 9:00 p.m. The wearing of masks will be encouraged and all events must take place outside. Social distancing will be practiced, as our officer groups will be smaller as we strive to promote safe interaction with our community partners.

Please understand the cancellation of the event may still occur, as weather or other circumstances could inhibit planned activities.
The Valparaiso Police is inviting community members and neighborhood groups to organize events and ac- tivities as part of the national celebration. For communities wishing to participate but limit contact, celebration parades may be conducted during the event hours. Captain of Support Services, Joe Hall, explained this is an opportunity to build relationships as we work together to provide safer communities.

Valparaiso Police Officers and civilian staff will be visiting the planned activities in a variety neighborhoods throughout the city, to show their support of the citizens. Members of the department will include K9, Bike Patrol, support staff, Patrol Division, and Investigations.

National Night Out has always been a great success and we look forward to meeting with our community and being a part of all the planned events in the neighborhoods, explained Chief Balon. This will be the 16th year of participation for the Valparaiso Police Department.
