O’Marrion Isaiah Love, 23, of Gary, has been charged in Lake County after police said a traffic stop in Hobart led to the discovery of a handgun allegedly possessed by the convicted felon.

According to court documents, shortly after 1:30 a.m. on June 16, police stopped a black Chevrolet Impala near East 39th Avenue and Louisiana Street after observing multiple traffic violations. During the stop, officers said two occupants admitted they had firearms. Investigators alleged Love, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, appeared “frozen” and repeatedly glanced toward the rear driver-side floorboard.

Police said all occupants were removed from the vehicle and a K-9 alerted to the vehicle. During a search, officers recovered two firearms belonging to the other occupants and located a third handgun on the rear driver-side floorboard. Marijuana residue and burnt marijuana cigarettes were also found inside the vehicle, according to court documents.

Investigators said Love appeared intoxicated and was denied admission to the Lake County Jail because of his condition. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment before later being taken to the jail. Court records state Love denied ownership of the firearm.

According to court documents, investigators learned Love had been convicted of Level 6 felony domestic battery in Lake County on Aug. 8, 2024. One of the other occupants later claimed ownership of the third firearm, but investigators noted the claim was not made until after officers had already concluded Love had been in possession of it.

Investigators also reviewed a photograph of Love’s cellphone screen saver, which allegedly showed him holding a Glock pistol resembling the recovered firearm with an extended magazine. Detectives stated the image appeared to show an illegal “Glock switch,” a device capable of converting a semiautomatic pistol into a fully automatic weapon.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
