The East Chicago Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday morning at the Dollar General.
According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:55 a.m. on July 7 after receiving a report of an armed robbery in progress. When officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.
Investigators say the robbery began around 8:48 a.m. when an unidentified man entered the store, displayed a handgun, and confronted an employee. The suspect demanded money from both the cash register and the store safe. Fearing for his safety, the employee complied, and the suspect escaped with approximately $2,002.85 in cash.
Surveillance video captured the suspect entering the business. He is described as a black male, 6 foot, wearing black shoes, a white Nike tracksuit, and a black jacket over a white hooded sweatshirt. Police say he left the store around 8:52 a.m. and was last seen traveling south in the 4700 block of Northcote Avenue.
Officers canvassed the surrounding neighborhood and checked nearby residential surveillance cameras but were unable to locate additional footage showing the suspect’s direction of travel.
No injuries were reported during the robbery.
The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been made.
